TRAVELLERS were yesterday stranded around Ogwashi-Uku on the Ughelli/Asaba expressway, following the near collapse of a bridge under construction by CCECC.
Those travelling from Asaba and Ughelli ends could not crossover to their end with their vehicles for fear of being sunk by the bridge.
Hundreds of travellers were seen crossing over the bridge with their luggage on motorcycles and on foot to continue their journey after abandoning their vehicles to continue their journey.
Some commuters and vehicle owners, however, took alternative longer routes to avoid the bridge.
The construction company for fear of casualty, closed the road till further notice. The company is handling a section of the Ughelli-Asaba Road dualization project.
Meanwhile, the company has been on that spot for over 10 months without noticeable progress on the bridge construction.
A source close to the company, who pleaded anonymity, said it was the sand they were using the cover the box coverts that are being washed away, following the overflow of water in the area.
