Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State has advised authorities of University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN) to utilise outcomes of the Prof. Eni Njoku lecture series, initiated by the institution.
The series was set up years ago in honour of the late Prof. Eni Njoku, whose academic prowess led to growth of the institution and academia.
He regretted that recommendations of the 14th edition of the series, in which he was the guest lecturer, were not implemented.
Uzodimma, who was represented by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Declan Emelumba, gave the advice, at the weekend, when he presided over the 15th edition of the series with the theme: ‘Science And Technology As Allies With Good Governance In Wealth Creation And Poverty Reduction.’
The governor noted that recommendations arising from the intellectual and cultural harvest could be translated to policy formulation propositions forwarded to both national and sub- national governments to implement for good of the nation.
He cautioned that organising such event would amount to a waste of time and resources if recommendations were not implemented.
Uzodimma stressed the importance of research among academics in advancement of knowledge, and policy formulation by government, as well as institutions.
He said: “We need our academics to draw up a roadmap for the realisation of policy initiatives, be it in politics, economy or even in security for us to make the much needed progress in wealth creation and poverty reduction.”
The governor commended the lecturer of the 15th edition of the lecture series, Prof. Chinedu Nebo, whom he described as one of the finest in science and technology, as well as the academic world, promising to continue sustaining legacies of the late academic.
