Kebbi State Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has recorded 17 seizures worth N71 million in duty paid value in one month.
Addressing a press conference, yesterday, the Controller, Kebbi Command, Dr. Ben Oramalugo, said the seizure was made between April 15 and May 15, 2023, adding that arrests were also made between Bunza town and Maje axis in the border area.
Oramalugo said the success was achieved through stop-and-search efforts. According to him, officers were able to intercept a truckload of donkey skins and meat, along the Kamba border axis.
“While conveying them to the command, our officers were attacked by some unscrupulous elements from the village of Bunza. They broke the windscreen of two patrol vehicles belonging to the command,” he said.
He said other items seized included: a Volvo truck, fully loaded with 212 big-sized sacks and 202 small-sized sacks of donkey meat/skins.
Others were: two Toyota Camry 2013 cars; two used Honda Jazz 2005 cars; 55 bales of secondhand clothes; 4,925 litres of Premium Motor Spirit; 13 bags of foreign parboiled rice; five kegs of vegetable oil; one blue Volvo truck and one Toyota Corolla.
He added: “This command has steadily continued to record boost in one of our core mandates of revenue generation. In the month of April, we were able to generate N127 million.”
