A 25-year-old man, Oluwafemi Damilola, has been arraigned before a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Ondo town, headquarters of Ondo West Local Council of Ondo State, for allegedly having carnal knowledge of four ladies without paying them.
The ladies, identified as Glory David, Akere Bright, Valria Isaac and Ngozi Okoro, were allegedly defrauded of N45,000 by the defendant.
The suspect, who was said to have committed the crime in October 2022, at the Sabo axis of Ondo town, was brought before the court by the police for sending a fake alert with the aim of allegedly defrauding the ladies.
During the proceeding, the prosecutor stated that the defendant conducted himself in a manner likely to cause a breach of peace by fraudulently having carnal knowledge of the four ladies.
The police prosecutor, Akao Moremi, also alleged that the defendant indecently assaulted the ladies.
The charge sheet read: “That you, Oluwafemi Damilola, sometimes in October 2022 at Sabo Road, Ondo, in the Ondo Magisterial District, did conduct yourself in a manner likely to cause the breach of peace by fraudulently having carnal knowledge of Glory David, Valria Isaac, Akere Bright, and Ngozi Okoro.
“That you, Oluwafemi Damilola, on the same date, time, and place in the aforementioned Magisterial District, did indecently assault Glory David, Valria Isaac, Akere Bright, and Ngozi Okoro by fraudulently and unlawfully having carnal knowledge of them with the pretense of sending them the sum of N45,000, which you failed to do so but willingly sent them a fake alert with the aim of defrauding them sexually.”
The prosecutor informed the court that the offence is contrary to and punishable under Sections 249 and 360 of the Criminal Code, Cap. 37, Volume 1, Law of Ondo State of Nigeria, 2006.
According to Moremi, he would be calling five witnesses to testify in the case and therefore applied for a date to enable him to study the case file.
The defendant’s counsel, S. A. Iluyemi, told the court that there is a move for settlement.
He prayed for the court to release the defendant to him and promised that the defendant would pay the complainants money before the next day of adjournment.
Chief Magistrate Charity Adeyanju granted the application made by the defendant’s counsel and ordered that the money be paid to the complaints before the next adjournment date.
Adeyanju added that the court’s orderly must confirm the payment and report back to court.
