A gubernatorial aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 election in Ogun State, Otunba Segun Sowunmi has petitioned the acting Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, to beam his searchlight on what he termed “criminal manipulations currently threatening the state’s fragile democracy.”
Sowunmi, who raised this alarm, yesterday, while sharing his ordeal in the hands of miscreants at the premises of the Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal, sitting at Isabo, Abeokuta, alleged the state government was responsible for the attack, noting that there was need to collectively do everything to ensure that the attitude is discouraged.
He said: “IGP, please allow me to bring to your notice a shameful activity in Ogun State, one of the states in Nigeria, which happens to be both our states, a few weeks ago. Some suspected miscreants, cultists and gun-runners, were masquerading themselves as parks and garages operators.
“As I wrote to the National Security Adviser on the security implications of thugs in the state, I’m compelled to remind you that it was politicians who recruited such non-state actors in the North East and it has metamorphosed into Boko Haram.”
