Samuel Chukwueze came off the bench, but couldn’t make a definite impact as AC Milan were trashed by their city rivals Inter at the San Siro on Saturday, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.
Goals from Marcus Thuram, Henrikh Mkhitaryan, Davide Fratessi, and Hakan Calhanoglu sealed Inter’s 5-1 win over Milan in an Emphatic performance.
Mkhitaryan opened the scoring inside five minutes after Marcus Thuram outmuscled Milan’s Thiaw, before crossing the ball into the box, reaching Di Marco at the far post, who in turn, fizzed a cross across the face of the goal for the Armenian to send Inter a goal up.
Thuram scored his own goal in the 38th minute. A low cross from Denzel Dumfries sent Thuram out wide, but the French man ran after the ball, a placed a well-cushioned shot into the top-right corner of the goal.
Samuel Chukwueze came on in the 55th minute and aided Milan as Rafael Leao pulled one back for them, fifteen minutes into the second half. A through ball from Olivier Giroud sent the Portuguese Leao on goal, as he sent the ball into the back of the goal, in a bid to start a comeback for the Rossoneri.
In what was turning into a man-of-the-match performance, Mkhitaryan restored Inter’s two-goal cushion in style. Lautaro Martinez found Mkhitaryan and the Armenian again sent the ball into the bottom corner, making it 3-1. Inter’s three points were guaranteed after Hakan Calhanoglu scored a spot kick with eleven minutes to go. Davide Fratessi added the icing on the cake in extra-time. Mkhitaryan sent Fratessi through on goal and the twenty-three-year-old sparked the wild celebrations for the Nerazzurri, taking his shirt off.
Inter handed Chukwueze’s Milan their first loss of the season, while Inter maintain their perfect start in the Serie and go top of the league.
Meanwhile in the Premier League, Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey were in action for Fulham against Luton while Frank Onyeka’s Brentford faced Newcastle.
Iwobi made his Fulham FC debut in the 1-0 home win over Luton after joining from Everton on transfer deadline day after waiting two weeks to make his first appearance as he arrived with an injury.
Nigerian defender Bassey made his return serving a one-match ban due to a red card he received in the draw against Arsenal on gameweek three.
In Brentford’s 1-0 loss to Newcastle, Onyeka came on as substitute for Christian Norgaard in the 72nd minute. The Nigerian international, who was making his third appearance in the league, had a decent performance.
Callum Wilson scored from the penalty spot for Newcastle to end a run of three consecutive defeats which had seen Howe under the spotlight.
