A tenant, Olayiwola Odebudo, who was at loggerheads with his landlord, Mr Oladapo Oshin, and his family for rearing goats in the compound, has embraced peace.
PUNCH Metro reported in July that Odebudo, who rented a three-bedroom apartment in the house at 25, Old Ota Road, the Meiran area of the Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State, complained that the goats being reared by the landlord and his family members were messing up the compound.
Meanwhile, the landlord’s family told PUNCH Metro that they had been having goats in the compound before he (Odebudo) rented the apartment, noting that the landlord is an Osun worshipper.
Giving an update in an interview with our correspondent on Tuesday, Odebudo disclosed that he had settled his differences with his landlord and his family.
Odebudo said, “The chiefs and elders in the community waded in. They wondered why I went to the newspaper over the issue, and I told them that when I granted PUNCH Metro an interview, they had not moved the animals, but by the time the publication came out, they had already done the needful.
“The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency contacted me on X (formerly Twitter) for a follow-up on the matter. I had to tell them the goats had been kept away and there was no issue anymore. The major terms of the resolution were that the public should know we have maintained peace. In all honesty, we have been nice to one another; we had no issues if not for the issue of the animals. We are now on good terms.”
Speaking on Tuesday, one of the landlord’s daughters, Osunteju, noted that she earlier took up the matter at the Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Lagos.
She said, “In the long run, he was asked to rectify the issue because people were posting derogatory comments on Facebook after the newspaper shared the story. The issue of rearing goats has been settled. The goats have their cages. They don’t come outside.”
