The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, on Monday, said it arrested 51 suspected illegal miners and three suspected telecommunication mast vandals in Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.
This was made known by the FCT Command spokesperson, Samuel Idoko, in a statement on Monday.
Idoko said, “Fifty-one suspects were arrested in the Gwagwalada area of the FCT for engaging in illegal mining activities and the three vandalism suspects were apprehended following a tip-off by the FCT command intelligence and undercover operatives.”
The NSCDC FCT Commandant, Olusola Odumosu, in the statement, said, “Exhibits recovered from the 54 suspects were dismantled metal mast parts, unquantified amount of a substance believed to be gold dust, pumping hoses, 10 litres of fuel, shovels, diggers, and head pans.”
Odumosu said the suspects would be arraigned in court after the conclusion of investigation.
