The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has disclosed that two persons lost their lives while 13 others sustained varying degrees of injuries in a road crash that occurred along the Ijebu-Ode-Ore expressway.
Spokesperson of the Ogun State sector of FRSC, Florence Okpe, disclosed this in a statement made available to newsmen in Abeokuta, the state capital.
According to Okpe, the fatal crash occurred at about 12:10hrs on Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode section of the expressway after J3 junction.
She said two vehicles—a Toyota Hiace Bus with registration number GUE59ZY, belonging to Iyare Motors, and a truck with registration number BGT94LG”—were involved in the accident.
Okpe said, “15 people were involved in the crash, which comprised 10 male adults and 05 female adults, and a total of 13 people sustained injuries, and 02 persons were recorded dead from the crash (02 male adults).
“02 vehicles were involved with registration numbers GUE59ZY TOYOTA HAICE BUS belonging to Iyare Motors and a Truck BGT94LG.”
Okpe added that the suspected cause of the crash was excessive speed, and the bus driver rammed into a stationary truck from the rear, which was parked on the hard shoulder of the road.
“The injured victims were taken to Hope Hospital in J4, and the corpses were deposited at the General Hospital morgue Ijebu-Ode.”
The Ogun State Sector Commander, Anthony Uga, cautioned motorists on the wrong parking of vehicles on the highway and that if there is any breakdown, there should be caution signs displayed to alert other road users.
He further advised motorists to shun speed and drive defensively.
