Indeed, these are difficult times for the associates and friends of the Maidalan Gombe, Alhaji Ahmad Shehu, following the loss of his six family members in a tragic road accident along the Gombe-Azare highway.
Arewa PUNCH findings reveal that a burst tyre contributed to the death of the six family members.
The deceased persons were the immediate family members of the Maidalan Gombe, Alhaji Ahmad Shehu.
According to a report made available by the Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Felix Thelman, which confirmed the accident and the deaths, noted that the victims were rushed to the General Hospital in Misau, where they were confirmed dead.
Arewa PUNCH gathered further that two of the victims were injured, while six died from the crash, comprising two adult males, three female adults, and a male child.
Thelman, while confirming the incident to our correspondent, promised to provide the requisite details after consulting with his counterpart in the Bauchi sector since the accident occurred within that command.
Meanwhile, the report disclosed that the probable cause included tyre burst, over speeding, leading to a head-on collision involving two other vehicles.
Thelman told Arewa PUNCH, “One thing clear is that there was a head-on collision; for a vehicle to vie off and hit another on coming vehicle something must have happened. They (Bauchi Sector) saw one of the vehicles had a flat tyre.
“It is possible their tyre burst, and then the issue of speeding too is also associated with some of these things. If the speeding was within the permissible speed limit, the ability to manoeuvre would have been easier. So, speeding, tyre burst are the major factors that led to the collision, which was the final event that happened.”
On the actions taken, the report noted, “The injured and the dead were taken to the General hospital in Misau for treatment and confirmation respectively in conjunction with Nigeria Police Misau Division.”
Also, saddened by the loss, Governor Muhammadu Yahaya, in a press statement signed by his Director-General Press Affairs Ismaila Misilli, decried the impact of the loss.
Yahaya, alongside his deputy and the Emir of Gombe Abubakar Shehu-Abubakar III, attended the funeral prayers.
The statement in that regard partly read, “Our heartfelt condolences to Maidalan Gombe and the entire bereaved family members during this incredibly difficult time. The loss of six family members in such a tragic road accident is not only a profound loss to your family, but it also deeply affects the entire Gombe people.’’
“Words cannot adequately express the sorrow felt for the immense grief you and your loved ones are experiencing. Please know that you are in our thoughts and prayers as you pass through this heartbreaking time.”
