The newly appointed coach of the Super Eagles, Finidi George, has said despite facing a huge task in his first official game as the national team coach, he is not scared and ready to get a good result.
After securing two points from two games in the race for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the Super Eagles will be up against South Africa and Benin Republic in a make-or-mar game in June with Nigerians looking forward to victory in the two games. “Football has evolved, South Africa is quite a different team compared to the past, but Nigeria is always Nigeria, and one cannot be scared,” he said.
“Going through life every day is scary, but you have to live through it. So I’m not scared, there’s no magic in this, it’s just football. “We know Nigerians would love the team to win all the time, and we’ll just get the players focused on the game, one game at a time. “We focus on the South Africa game and see how we can win that one before we talk about the Benin Republic game.
“For me, as a coach, it’s either you have a good result, or you don’t have a good result. We will do our job and make sure we get the best out of that game, nothing else.”
According to the former Africa Cup of Nations winner, he is concentrating more on the job at hand and not thinking of money. The coach called Finito in his playing days said with good results, the money would come and all he needed to do was to do the job at hand. He added: If I”‘m asking for money and I’ve not done the job, for me that is not vital. Let me do the job first, and then we’ll see what happens later.
