A Magistrate Court in Adamawa State has remanded nine males to a correctional facility in Yola, on accusations of criminal conspiracy and armed robbery.
The remand order was made by Chief Magistrate Court I in Yola after the presiding judge, Magistrate Mohammed Fufore, received the defendants as arraigned by the prosecuting police officers, Inspector S. S. Nicholas and ASP Francis Audu.
Seven defendants, namely; Abdulwahab Abdulkarim, Musa Mohammed, Ibrahim Buba, Mallamjo Yunusa, Haruna Umar, Musa Buba, and Sumai Buba, pleaded not guilty to the accusations.
Inspector S. S. Nicholas presented the seven defendants in court with the same First Information Report, while ASP Francis Audu charged Samson John and Babangida Mohammed with criminal conspiracy and armed robbery.
Samson John pleaded guilty, and Babangida Mohammed pleaded not guilty.
Inspector Nicholas charged his seven prisoners with possessing two cutlasses, two knives, a horn, and a razor blade.
According to him, the seven were apprehended by a group of police officers who searched Yola South’s major market on May 17, 2024.
While arraigning the other two defendants, ASP Francis Audu stated that they were arrested on May 13, 2024, by a local hunter who handed them over to the police.
He claimed that when going by the Galaxy Hotel in Numan, the hunter spotted Samson standing beside the road and, under questioning, confessed to planning with the second defendant and two other individuals who are still at large to engage in armed robbery activities.
Following the defendant’s plea, the presiding judge adjourned the case to June 3rd, 2024 for mention.
