The Gombe State Police Command has paraded a 13-year-old suspect accused of raping an eight-year-old girl in the Akko Local Government Area of the state.
The police also paraded 18-year-old Usman Husseini and 45-year-old Mohammed Yaya, for allegedly defiling their victims on multiple occasions on Friday, May 31.
During a press briefing at the command’s headquarters, ASP Buhari Abdullahi, the Police Public Relations Officer, stated that the 13-year-old suspect dragged the victim to a lonely route where he had his way.
According to him, “On May 24, 2024, a formal complaint was received at Akko Division that on the 22nd May 2024, the suspect dragged an eight-year-old girl to a corner and had canal knowledge of her.”
He went on to say that on May 26, 2024, Musa Saleh of Hammadu-kafi quarters in Gombe filed an official complaint alleging that Husseini dragged his 4-year-old daughter to a spot near his house and inserted his finger into her private parts.
The PPRO stated that upon receiving the complaint, detectives from the Pantami Division rushed to the scene, arrested the suspect, and took both the suspect and the victim to a specialist for medical examination, emphasizing that the case is still being investigated and will be charged in court once the investigations are completed.
According to the state police spokesman, Yaya from Tumu Akko Local Government Area in Gombe allegedly defiled a 10-year-old girl on two separate occasions after promising her N100 and N50.
He added that on the 27th of May, 2024, the suspect enticed a 10-year-old girl into his residence and had canal knowledge with her, pointing out that during the preliminary inquiry, the suspect confessed to having carried out the conduct on two different occasions.
He revealed that he handed her 100 and 50 naira, respectively, adding that the case is being investigated and will soon be prosecuted in court for prosecution.
Abdullahi stated that the government is paying close attention to the issue of rape and that the Department of Public Prosecutions is taking on the responsibility of combating rape and other types of abuse while commenting on the state’s execution of the Child Protection program.
