The Transmission Company of Nigeria on Tuesday restored electricity supply to many parts of the country.
New Telegraph learnt that power was gradually restored in Lagos from Tuesday evening and fully in many places at about 9.30 pm.
A source from Anambra State also said power supply was gradually restored in the area from evening and in many parts of the area at night.
Sources said the recovery of power at the national grid started at 3:27 pm and that the TCN transmitted 30 megawatts of power to the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company network.
It was also learnt that the Shiroro hydropower plant resumed operations at 8:00 am yesterday and generated 30 megawatts of power.
It was further gathered that it sustained supply to the national grid till 3:00 PM and contributed to the partial restoration of power supply in some places.
Sources also said that power recovery and restoration were ongoing in many other areas of the country.
It could be recalled that the strike called upon by the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress had thrown Nigeria into darkness as the power supply to the national grid dropped to zero MW following the shutdown of power plants and TCN installations.
However, NLC and TUC relaxed the strike for five days in honour of the agreement labour reached with the federal government.
TCN has announced that the rehabilitation and re-stringing of the four vandalized towers along the Jos-Gombe 330kV transmission line supplying bulk power to substations in the Northeast had been completed.
It stated that the re-stringing of conductors was completed and contractors have reconnected the jumper on tower 282, making it ready for the transmission of bulk electricity. TCN announced this on its X.
It would be recalled that the vandalized towers were discovered on April 22, 2024.
The governors of the North East states had demanded the restoration of power in their states.
Though TCN had promised to complete the repairs and restore supply by May 27, 2024, the collapse of the fourth tower during the re-stringing process, it, delayed the completion.
TCN said the four towers have since been completed, and that the line is now ready for bulk power transmission.
It appreciates the patience and support of the governors and people in the North Eastern part of the nation during the period of the tower reconstruction work.
