An Iyaganku Magistrates’ Court, siting in Ibadan, Oyo State has remanded two men in a correctional facility for allegedly kidnapping two men.
The suspects who were Umaru Abubakar, 32, and Sidi Umaru, 20, with no established addresses, were charged with conspiracy and kidnapping.
The prosecution, Insp Femi Oluwadare, informed the court that the defendants allegedly committed the offences on March 12 at around 10 p.m. on the Ago-Are Tede Ibadan expressway.
Oluwadare said that the defendants kidnapped Chinedu Udonsi and Ibikunle Olaoyejide while in transit to Ibadan.
He claimed that the defendants collected N10 million in ransom from one Jude Nnaji in exchange for the abductees’ release.
He stated that the offenses violated Section 4(2) of the Oyo State Kidnapping Prohibition Law, 2016.
Mr Maruff Mudashiru, the Magistrate, however, refused to accept the defendants’ plea due to a lack of jurisdiction.
He ordered the police to return the case file to the Director of Public Prosecution for legal guidance and postponed the case until August 29 for mention.
