The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission, (ICPC), has convicted Quadri Ismail Adeyinka, a Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) employee over travel passport fraud.
The ICPC charged the convict before Justice Jude Onwuegbuzie of the Federal Capital Territory High Court, Apo, Abuja, with four counts of gratification, conferment of corrupt advantage, and cheating in violation of the Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Act 2000 and the Penal Code Act.
Dr Osuobeni Ekoi Akponimisingha, counsel for the ICPC, testified before the court during the trial on how Adeyinka duped Ovie Justice Ojeffia under the guise of regularising the latter’s foreign passport.
After receiving N100,000 from Ojeffia to regularise the passport, Adeyinka broke their arrangement.
The victim then petitioned the ICPC, which led to an investigation and the convict’s arraignment in court.
Justice Onwuegbuzie found Adeyinka guilty of all four counts and sentenced him to seven years for counts one and two, five years for count four, and two years for count three.
The sentences are to run concurrently
