The AthIetic Federation of Nigeria (AFN) has said Nigeria’s AthIetes based abroad are showing enough interest for the National Olympic Trials slated for Benin, Edo State. AFN’s technical director, Samuel Onikeku, made this known in an interview in Ghana, insisting that athIetes have no choice than to participate having known the consequences of any withdrawal. “All of them are eagerly enthusiastic to come home to run, as AFN have a standing rule in selecting athIetes after the Trials,” he said.
“We have athIetes that had already qualified for the Olympics and more are yet to qualify that is why the AFN Paris Olympic Trials and CAA Senior AthIetics Championships in Cameroon is crucial.” Onikeku is optimistic that after the two competitions ahead, these athIetes will hit Paris in style. On Nigeria’s athIetes performance in Ghana, the AFN TD said; “The Federation was impressed on the athIetes’ performance and wish their running form stays beyond the Olympics.”
