The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) may not follow the recommendation of its Technical Committee when appointing a new foreign coach for the Super Eagles, as Ibrahim Gusauled board looks to adopt an approach employed by its predecessor in hiring of expatriates for the national team. Former NFF President Amaju Pinnick unilaterally appointed both Gernot Rohr and Jose Pesiero before their appointments were approved by the technical committee.
It is suggested that the current NFF boss may also ignore the committee’s recommendation, especially after the unsuccessful spell of Finidi George as the Super Eagles coach. Former Zambia and Morocco coach, Herve Renard, as well as the current Cameroon coach March Brys, have been rumoured to be linked with the vacant Super Eagles top post, but an NFF insider has denied these reports.
Additionally, an influential member of the NFF President’s inner circle is reportedly in Germany looking for a new coach for the country. Sports Minister John Enoh has instructed the NFF to reorganise both its technical committee and technical department. The NFF’s technical committee had shortlisted five foreign coaches – Antonio Conceicao, Luis Fernandez, Joaquin Caparros, Didier Six, and Miguel Herrera – for the NFF executive committee’s consideration before they were told to also consider local coaches.
