Hours after Nigerian Afrobeats singer, Damini Ogulu, better known as Burna Boy denied claims of using songwriters, netizens have taken to their social media pages to drop evidence to refute his claims.
New Telegraph reports that Davido’s signee, Logos Olori while featuring in a recent interview on City 105.1 FM, mentioned Burna Boy and other musicians as singers who employed songwriters in their music.
He made this statement in defence of his boss who was mocked by fellow singer, Wizkid who described him as an ‘influencer with a songwriter.’
Reacting on his X handle, Burna Boy on Saturday asserted that he does not use songwriters. The international star clarified that those credited as songwriters on his songs are the producers and the move is in accordance with Western music policies.
He said, “Any name you see credited on my songs are only producers of the songs or featured artists, not writers. But for some reason, the Western world considers producers as writers of the instrumentals and they just throw their names on there as writers. Nobody fit write for Odogwu,”
However, in 2020, Burna Boy had once admitted that Davido’s signee, Peruzzi, wrote a song for him after which the 30BG crew member denied the claim.
Meanwhile, a social media influencer, Daniel Regha recalled the tweet where Ododwu admitted to employing the services of Peruzzi.
He said, “Burna this was u in 2020 giving credit to Peruzzi as a songwriter, but all of a sudden nobody writes for u? For the record no-one gets songwriting credit unless they co-wrote or contributed to writing the song, so ur statement isn’t valid.”
