The recently conducted stakeholders meeting of Kebbi State chapter of the All Progressive Congress (APC) was meant to thoroughly discussed and strategies for the forthcoming Local Government Elections in the state.
Comparatively, it was obvious that the large turned out of the stakeholders to the meeting was unprecedented in recent history of similar meeting of political parties in the state.
Discussed, were suggestions and strategies for ensuring overwhelming victory of the party in the forthcoming local government elections, under a free, fair and transparent elections, scheduled to hold in August this year.
Based on the workable strategies accepted, the State Executive Committee of the party directed to constitutes campaign committees for the State, local governments and ward levels and prepare for campaign, to be conducted in compliance with the stipulated laws governing the conduct, devoid of any unlawful and undesirable action.
However, towards the end, the meeting unexpectedly took another dimension when some members of the forum who are apparently confident of what they called remarkable performance of the Party’s controlled State government under the stewardship of Governor Nasir Idris Kaura, suggested for a holistic review of the meeting of the party’s highest decision making body.
Although the Governor’s track records of accomplishment in all sectors of development have been adequately publicised during his one year in office anniversary, many of the speakers insisted that it has to be formally presented to the forum for acknowledgement.
He also needed for the information of the stakeholders is the Governor’s road map to achieving more success in his second year.
Expectedly, the review revisited what the people of the state have not only been informed but also physically witnessed.
The few accomplishments re echoed includes befitting transformation of the state capital with expansion and beautification of the roads, construction of an ultramodern motor park and completion of the multi billion naira abandoned state secretariat complex, to mention but a few.
The stakeholders were also informed of the APC controlled State government projects and programmes extracted from the Comrade Governor’s campaign pledges, proposed for gradual implementation in the second year.
Among the projects included establishment of six referral Hospitals in centrally selected major towns, five mega full pledge secondary schools and fully equipped skills acquisition centres in each emirate headquarters and zonal centers of the state Ministry of Commerce, Trade and Industry.
Equally in the proposed programme is invitation of both indigenous and foreign but genuine investors for discussion on the possibility of either joint or sole ownership establishment of industries, preparably those that can utilise the abundant human and raw materials in the state.
The Stakeholders were also informed that the attention so far given to the educational and agricultural sectors should be considered as an introduction to a holistic, productive and affordable approach that will soon be unfolded to allow for expert inputs and guidance before implementation.
At the end, individually and Collectively, the stakeholders after appreciating Comrade Governor’s achievements within a short period of time, passed vote of absolute confidence on his remarkable performance and convincing demonstration of capability to turning around the socioeconomic and political fortunes of the state.
An elder in the Party and State Financial Secretary,Alhaji Ibrahim Suru has observed that the showcasing of what had so far been achieved and the unfolding of the way forward, have proved to the stakeholders, Governor Nasir Idris Kaura’s determination to positively transform of the state through execution high quality and cost effective developmental projects.
“You might have observed that the Comrade has turned to a projects sites engineer, in view of his regular visits to projects sites where he always insist that the projects must be executed based on the approved design and specification so that the government will get value for its money “.
Addressing journalists shortly after the meeting, Comrade Nasir Kaura expressed appreciation and satisfaction with the support he enjoys from the members of the Party and indeed the entire people of the state.
He assured that he will maintain the tempo of providing infrastructural development and improving thesocioeconomic well-being of the people.
To the leadership and membership of the APC, Governor Nasir Kaura warned them not be carried away by the general acceptability of the party by the people of the state and the moderate achievements so far recorded, but intensify membership drive and ensure sustainable peace and unity among members as well as members of the public.
At the meeting chaired by the leader of the party and the state Governor includes heavy weight politicians of substance believed to have the capacity and political sagacity to control the state political landscape.
Among them were the former Governors Alhaji Sa’idu Nasamu Dakingari, Senator Atiku Abubakar Bagudu Minister of Budget and Economic planning, Minister of state for Education Dr Yusuf Tanko Sununu, former Minister of Justice Alhaji Abubakar Malami and a Member of the National Board of Trustees of the party, Senator ( Major-General) Muhammadu Magoro among others .
