Cross River state Governor, Sen. Bassey Otu has hailed the Supreme Court ruling validating the financial autonomy of the Local Governments in the country, saying nobody was against development at the grassroots.
The governor, who commented on the Apex court verdict after a meeting with President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Villa on Thursday, said, “Nigeria is a democratic country, and we know very well that President Tinubu and the Renewed Hope Agenda is a democratic one.
“And I believe that the judgment is taken in very good faith. All Nigerians should be happy about it.
“I don’t think anybody is against development in the local governments. I don’t think so. I have not read the details of the judgment as passed.
“When we do, I believe that the application of it should add some pep to our local government administration.”
Asked why he came to see the President, the governor said he was at the Villa to update Tinubu on the security situation in his state.
He said the security around the borders of Cross River has become worrisome and would require the deployment of more security agencies to address.
