World Record holder in Women’s 100m hurdles, Oluwatobiloba Amusan, has been named the Team Nigeria flag bearer for the 2024 Paris Olympic Games while badminton star, Anuoluwapo Opeyori, will serve as the General Team captain for the country.
The Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) in collaboration with the Sports Ministry announced on Tuesday, the appointment of the duo as the leaders of the team.
Amusan, the reigning world champion in the 100m hurdles, will be one of Nigeria’s brightest medal prospects in Paris, while Opeyori, on the other hand, is an experienced badminton player who has been representing Nigeria since 2017.
Meanwhile, the Nigeria camp in Germany was thrown into wide jubilation after the payment of the athletes’ allowance.
The Minister of Sports Development, John Enoh, stated that both the domestic and foreign camping allowances have been disbursed to the athletes. “Ensuring our athletes are well-prepared and motivated is a top priority,” the Minister said.
“We are committed to providing all necessary support to help them excel on the global stage. “Our athletes have shown incredible dedication and resilience, and we believe they are ready to make the nation proud.”
