At least three bodies have been recovered from rubbles as a result of a building that collapsed at Arowojobe Estate by Power Line, Mende Sunmola Bus Stop, Maryland. Five others were rescued and are receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital in the metropolis.
The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service said in a statement issued on Thursday that the rescue operation is in progress as the cause of the tragic event is yet undisclosed.
Signed by Margaret Adeseye, Director, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the statement sympathised with those affected and promised more updates.
The statement reads, “The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service was alerted at 01:55 hrs today, 25th July 2024, to a collapsed building Upon receiving the call, the Ilupeju Rescue Team was immediately dispatched to the scene.
“Eight people have been rescued so far. Five people were rescued alive and have been transported to the hospital for medical treatment. Sadly, three individuals have been recovered deceased.
“Search and rescue operations are actively ongoing.
“Further updates will be provided as the rescue operations continue. Our thoughts are with all those affected by this tragic event.”
