The Lagos State Police Command has arrested 32 persons in connection with the violent attacks at the Federal College of Education (FCE), Akoka, Lagos State.
According to Lagos Police Spokesman, Benjamin Hundey- in, the arrest followed a series of events that unfolded on Monday. Hundeyin explained in a statement released late Monday that staff members of the FCE had been locked out of their offices for over three months, denying the Provost access to his office.
A mediation team from the Ministry of Education arrived at the college to resolve the impasse, but was met with violence from staff and students.
“The rioting staff and students attacked the team from Abuja, damaging over five vehicles and the Provost’s official quarters,” Hundeyin stated, “They also blocked all entrances to the college, prompting police intervention to restore order.”
Despite being attacked with stones and water sachets, the police successfully restored normalcy and arrested 32 suspects. The Nigeria Police Force from Area Command, Surulere, remains on the ground to maintain peace.
