The Nigerian Navy has handed over 85 bags (40 kilogrammes) of cannabis sativa to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), yesterday at the parade ground of NNS Beecroft, Apapa.
The Commander NNS Beecroft, Commodore Rafiu Oladejo, who was represented by the Executive Officer , NNS Beecroft, Navy Captain, Mutalib Raji said that, “The Cannabis Sativa were seized on July 14, due to actionable intelligence by the combined team, Response team and the Blue Host, also we got some credible intelligence of individuals , criminal elements in the society seen at the beach.
“Fortunately, they met these criminals off loading Cannabis Sativa, we deployed men for possible arrest. “On sighting the personnel of the NNS Beecroft these men fled. About 60 bags were initially arrested, but when we were combing on the entire area, 25 other bags were seized, given a total of 85 bags weighing 3,327 Kilogrammes of Cannabis Sativa.”
The Marine Commander Narcotics of NDLEA, Mr. Paul Holmes said, “The intelligence has it that most of these illicit drugs are loaded from Togo enroute to Republic of Benne down to the Nigerian Waterways.”
The Marine Commander gave the market value and devastating effects on the consumers when it gets to the society, when he said, “Following the total kilogrammes, we are looking at over N400 million and the devastating effects on the consumers, like most of the hoodlums, criminals, the Boko Haram, the bandit that we have in the country today are as a result of Cannabis Sativa, because after taking it, they become fearless and they can do anything to any human being.”
