Uneasy calm pervaded Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital and it’s environs on Thursday, as business and commercial activities were paralysed as residents shunned the nationwide protest.
In a similar vein, the gates of commercial banks and filing stations were closed for customers and other users.
When New Telegraph Reporter visited the popular Ogoja road in Abakaliki, most of the banks were under lock and key.
At the International market located in the city, traders who spoke on condition of anonymity at 10am, said that they resorted to prayers before opening their shops for business.
However, security agencies were deployed in every nook and crannies of the city to forstal any breach of the law.
In an interview, a resident of the city Mr. Andrew Igwe. said that he decided to shun the protest because he lived on daily bread for his existence.
He said that joining the protest will not put food in his table.
Igwe however advised the government to ensure good governance and deliver dividends of democracy to the masses.
