It was the end of the road for the two Nigerian athletes in the shot put men and 100m women as both Chukwuebuka Enekwechi and Rosemary Chukwuma failed to get to the podium in France at the ongoing Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
Enekwechi finished sixth in the final of the shot put event after throwing a distance of 21.42m in an event won by USA’s Ryan Crouser, who threw a distance of 22.90m to win the gold followed by another American, Joe Kovacs, with a distance of 22.15m while Jamaican, Rajindra Campbell, won the bronze with a distance of 22.15m.
Crouser made it three back-to-back victories having won in Rio de Janeiro, Tokyo and now Paris Olympic Games.
In the women’s 100m semifinal, Chukwuma failed to progress to the final after finishing eight in her semifinal race with a time of 11.39secs.
Team Nigeria’s quest for a medal continues on Sunday with the duo of Favour Ashe and Kanyinsola Ajayi taking part in the semifinal and hopefully the final of the men’s 100m same as Favour Ofili taking part in the 200m.
