Money Spent On Propaganda Would’ve Stopped Hunger Protest – ADC

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has said the protest across the country, against bad governance, would not have occurred if the All Progressives Congress (APC) led Federal Government had channeled the huge sums of money deployed on propaganda, in attempt to stop it.

The Federal Government had mounted campaigns against the protest, which it accused opposition political parties of sponsoring.

But ADC National Chairman Dr. Ralphs Okey Nwosu, advised government to be more proactive in future.

Nwosu in an interview in Abuja, noted that if the money government spent in trying to stop the protest was channelled properly it would have gone a long way in addressing hunger in the country.

“Moving forward, I wish we could be more proactive. Nigerians came out in their numbers; and they have spoken.

“The economic policies of this government are suffocating. A lot of people are dying on the streets. Go to the mortuary, people are filled there. People cannot pay for their bills. So the president should listen to Nigerians,” he stated.

He criticised the efforts of the APC the government to stifle the protesters, stating that it is undemocratic for any democratic government to stop its citizens from protesting against bad policies.

Nwosu stated that hunger in the country, which he said, was bequeathed to Nigerians by the APC led government, was a ploy to cripple Nigerians, including the opposition, from holding the government to account.

“Yes, hunger may be part of it; by the time all of us are hungry and are crippled, we cannot challenge it, and people are worried,” added.

The ADC Chairman however, expressed disappointment at the opposition, and said they are not doing enough to check the excess of the APC government.

He called on leaders of opposition political parties in the country to rise to the occasion and hold the government accountable.
