Kamala Harris, the Vice President of the United States and Presidential candidate of the Democratic Party in the forthcoming US election and former President, Donald Trump are set to participate in ABC News debate on September 10.
New Telegraph reports that the development followed Trump’s announcement on Thursday that he had agreed to the event, along with two others scheduled for next month.
The statement reads, “ABC News will host qualifying presidential candidates to debate on September 10. Vice President Harris and former President Trump have both confirmed their attendance.”
While speaking at a news conference at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, Trump expressed his eagerness to face off with Harris, revealing that he has also committed to debates with Fox News on September 4 and NBC on September 25.
“I think it’s very important to have debates, and we’ve agreed with Fox on a date of September 4. We’ve agreed with NBC.
“Fairly full agreement subject to them on September 10. And we’ve agreed with ABC on September 25,” the Trump said
Trump further criticized Harris, questioning her ability to participate effectively in a debate.
“(Harris) hasn’t done an interview. She can’t do an interview. She’s barely competent, and she can’t do an interview. I look forward to the debates because I think we have to set the record straight,” he added.
Later on Thursday, Harris confirmed her participation in the ABC debate and expressed her preparedness to engage in further discussions.
“I’m glad that he’s finally agreed to a debate on September 10th. I’m looking forward to it, and I hope he shows up,” Harris remarked while speaking to reporters in Detroit.
The ABC debate which was initially agreed upon by Trump and former President Joe Biden before Biden withdrew from the race, has been a focal point of campaign negotiations.
Speaking earlier this week, Trump stated that he would not debate Harris if she declined to participate in the proposed Fox News debate on September 4.
Negotiations are ongoing with NBC, but the Harris campaign has yet to formally accept the proposed September 25 debate.
Details regarding the location, rules, and moderators for the debates will be finalized closer to the scheduled dates.
