The Chairman of the Labour Party National Transition Committee (LP-NTC), Comrade Omar Abdulwahed has denied the claim that the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) is meddling in the affairs of the party.
Omar who spoke on Monday when he received Forum of Labour Party Council Chairmanship Aspirants from Abuja Municipal Area Councils (AMAC), said
NLC conducts its stakeholder role in the party through its Political Commission.
“NLC is not a roadside meddler in the affairs of Labour Party, but in a long rested legal tango, the court delivered a consent judgement on the 20th March 2018 by Justice Gabriel Kolawole of the Abuja Federal High Court.
“The judgement declared that the Labour Party was founded, registered and is promoted by the NLC,” he stated.
The LP-NTC Chairman who said his committee “confirm and re-affirm” the suspension of Julius Abure by Edo State chapter of the party, accused him of blackmailing the NLC by claiming that the congress was meddling in Labour Party affairs.
He wondered the political structure Abure would have been struggling to lead if NLC had not founded and registered the Labour Party.
Omar maintained that the law empowers NLC as an institutional stakeholder in Labour Party affairs, arguing that “If NLC were acting without a lawful stake in LP to do so, why is the union not also involved in the affairs of the APC, PDP or other political parties of our country?”
He stated that any member of the party suspended by Abure after June 9 when his tenure ended, were null and void.
“Labour Party members throughout our country should recall that Abure himself has been suspended from our party by all leadership tiers of his Edo, his home state, that is ward, LGA, senatorial district and state councils.
“Let me confirm and re-affirm to you that that suspension stands. Till further notice, therefore, Abure is not a member of the Labour Party.
“For someone who is suspended and is therefore not a member of our party to suspend other members is comic, ridiculous and laughable.
“All such persons are hereby re-assured that they remain bona fide members of our party while Abure himself remains suspended.
“Whatever letterhead and designated persons Abure is using to suspend our party members are, acts of impersonation, null and void,” he added.
Spokesman of the delegation, Dr. Kingsley Okoronkwo, said their visit was to register their support to Omar-led LP-NTC, and ensure that Labour Party achieves transparent state congresses and all-inclusive national convention within the shortest feasible time.
Okoronkwo who disclosed that the membership of the forum cuts across the six Abuja Area Councils.
He commended that Omar-led leadership for its integrity, hard work and sincerity and it represents “the solution for the desired rebirth and emancipation of the party from its tainted recent past.”
