Gunmen suspected to be terrorists have shot one person dead, and rustled unspecified number of cattle at Dutiinma community, in Batsari Local Council Area of Katsina State.
The incident comes a week after gunmen invaded the community and rustled several domestic animals.
The deceased simply identified as Mal Tasi’u was reportedly killed in the wee hours of yesterday at about 2.a.m, when the gunmen invaded his residence.
Tasi’u was said to be a roasted meat seller, locally known as Suya.
It was learnt that the gunmen tried to abduct the deceased, to hold him hostage till ransom was paid, but he was said to have resisted them.
Like about a dozen other councils, Batsari is faced with security challenges brought about by activities of terrorists, kidnappers, rustlers and bandits.
More than a dozen people, including two security operatives, have lost their lives to the marauders in the council this year alone.
This is in addition to scores that have been kidnapped for ransom, as well as thousands of domestic animals that have been stolen in 2022.
When contacted, spokesperson for the state police command, SP Gambo Isah said he would contact the DPO in charge of the council and revert but was yet to do so at the time of filing this report.
