Governor Abdullahi Ganduje of Kano State has signed the budget of N268 billion into law for the 2023 fiscal year.
The governor’s assent followed the adoption and passage of the budget by the House of Assembly, led by Hamisu Chidari, on Wednesday.
Though, the executive submitted a proposal of N234 billion Budget of Consolidation in November, the lawmakers added over N23 billion.
Prior to the assent, the Speaker, Chidari, had told the State Executive Council (SEC) to consider the adjustment, which had gone through various public hearings, and other pressing demands.
Accompanied by principal officers and members of the state legislature, the Speaker urged strict implementation of the budget size as adopted by the Assembly.
Ganduje, who expressed satisfaction with the accelerated passage of the bill, said it would enable his administration complete major critical Infrastructure.
While assuring full implementation of the dictates of the appropriation, Ganduje said he’s delighted to have witnessed the last assent of budget after 22 years in Kano Government House.
His words: “I witnessed this process right inside this chamber for more than 20 years. First, for six years as commissioner, eight years as deputy governor and eight years as governor.
“Let me assure you that we will follow the implementation of the budget. We assure the people of Kano of our commitment to provide good governance and social development. We have laid solid foundation and I am sure the incoming government will follow the footsteps.”
