Big Brother Naija Season 6 winner, Hazel Onuo popularly known as Whitemoney, has lamented how the new naira notes are sold at parties.
The Reality TV star on Monday, January 30, 2023, lamented the scarcity of the new Naira notes via his Instagram Story.
According to Whitemoney, there has been a scarcity of new notes across banks and ATM muster points in the country.
Whitemoney wondered how the individuals were able to get their hands on the notes when banks in the country have not been able to.
To his utter dismay, Whitemoney said the hawkers sold N700k for as high as N1 million and pocketed N300k in profit. He went on to lash out at fellow citizens, adding that Nigerians are the cause of their own problems.
He said, “Nigeria is a beautiful country. We just have corrupt people handling the sectors that serve human purposes. How do we explain that there is no money in the bank both new notes and old notes, e no dey bank.
“I got to a party and I saw bundles of mint , ₦200, ₦500 and ₦1000.
Who dey sell money give these people? Who dey give them? That is not even the worst part. The worse part is that 700k was selling for 1m naira with 300K gain on it.”
Recall that the Central Bank of Nigeria had announced the extension of the old naira notes as legal tender till February 10, 2023.
This was to allow the new much circulation of the new currency which has recently added to hardship being faced by Nigerians.
