The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three suspected rapists and armed robbers for allegedly assaulting a young lady and dispossessing her of her belongings in Ibadan.
The suspected armed robbers and rapists were said to have accosted the lady who had gone to visit her friend on January 4, 2023 at a desolate spot at Alakia area in Ibadan.
Spokesperson for the Command, Adewale Osifeso, who paraded the suspects, said: “The suspects, who claimed to be community vigilantes dispossessed the lady of her mobile phone and whisked her to another desolate spot where she was held till about 1.25 a.m., on January 5.
“The three “vigilantes’’ took turns at having unlawful carnal knowledge of the young lady and forced her to transfer money into a bank account before she was abandoned to her fate at the scene. The incident was reported at the Alakia- divisional headquarters of the police and was transferred to the Command’s Monitoring Unit for investigation. The three armed robbers-cum-rapists were arrested in their respective hideouts in connection with the crime,’’ Osifeso said.
Also, the Command confirmed the arrest of a suspected armed robber who murdered a 65-year-old man, identified as Moshood Orolade, on Tuesday January 3, 2023 at his residence, Alakia area in Egbeda local council.
Osifeso disclosed that the assailants forcefully gained entry into the residence of the victim with the use of dangerous objects.
He added that during the raid, which lasted several hours, the assailant terminated the life of the deceased and subsequently dispossessed members of his family of their valuables including cell phones and huge amount of monies.
“As soon as the police received a distress call, operatives were dispatched to hunt down the perpetrators of the dastardly criminal activity. The kingpin of the armed robbery syndicate was arrested in his hideout,’’ he said.
