Former Inspector-General of Police, Sir Mike Okiro has stressed the need for the building a nation that stands for justice, equity and love for all irrespective of race, politics, religion and personal interests.
Okiro, who is also the Board Chairman of JusticeNOW International, however, advised Nigerians not to lose hope in the Nigeria project despite the challenges.
In a statement in Abuja, the retired IGP, enjoined the people to join in building a nation that truly reflect the teachings of the founding fathers.
“As we embark on this journey of discovery and understanding, let us do so with open minds and compassionate hearts,” he appealed.
Okiro disclosed that as part of the activities marking the nation’s 64th independence anniversary, JusticeNOW International has scheduled a national solidarity award and campaign, where
some outstanding Nigerians, including 16 state governors, would be honoured.
“The occasion which is marking Nigeria at 64 and JusticeNOW International at 5, promises to engage great leaders to inspire young people to become patriotic and innovative,” he added.
Among the governors to be honoured, according to him, are Abia State governor, Dr Alex Oti, his Rivers State counterpart, Siminalayi Fubara, Pastor Umo Eno of Akwa-Ibom State, Dr. Peter Mbah, Enugu State and Senator Hope Uzodinma of Imo State.
